Inspired by “when I am old and grey” an old dog’s lament

When I am old and grey
will I just be tossed away
left to sit alone all day
nobody will want to play
with me
in that case
what will I
do
just wait around to die

or will I still be
charismatic
not really be too
erratic
hopefully still will
be
loved by someone avidly

for in my heart
I know that I
will be sincere
and want to try
to love someone
so very much
to help them
and to stay in touch

to support them
and really to be
in love
through all eternity
and when I have to pass away
memories of me will stay

in other hearts
in other places
there will still be smiles
on other faces
