The Wicker man

The influence of Christianity
saw Sergeant Howie, come
by seaplane
to the island
the landlord’s daughter some
burning issues, on his mind
and Willow’s rule of thumb
dancing naked in her room
slapping she, and some
Maypoles represent
the phallic symbol as of May
Rowan Morrison once
a child but now a Hare they say
in a grave where cliffs and seagulls
violate the air
failing crops and sacrifice
seemingly do share

believers in that vital role
masked the cauldron bubbling hot
and what is the approaching soul
the pentacle of swords we’ve got
a game of chance may possibly
Punch unclothed was caught
he’d swapped his clothes a final dance
his will it seemed was sought

a generous libation ale all foaming white
coming of his own free will
The Wicker man in sight
they sacrificed a policeman
a powerhouse dancing free
a re birth coming in the wind
brought improbity

crops failed for a reason
the pagan slate wiped clean
god of fire and fruitful ire
the wicker man did lean
forward as the conflagration
really set the scene
dancing in the flames he fell
knocking on the doors of hell
frightening the onlookers spell
and sergeant Howie’s spleen
