Do we have the stomach to really save our wolves

The help that we are giving wolves
these days alas
is help they all could do without
our concentrations crass
the rancher has the belly laugh
for he has grasped the power
and we have given into him
and boy now does he tower
above us and above our wild friends
born where they do roam
they have nothing left for them
its certainly not their home
its more wild and open place
for the hunters to come by
an ambush all our precious
wolves as they, well just try
and live a life akin to
naturalness and they
are being shot to pieces
lost now everyday

Yes we can fight for the wolves
and all the others
and buy our T bones at the superstore
we can sign petitions till our hands ache
and eat our beef wellington’s galore
and all this time we are handing
power to ranchers
the CAFO’s, the great corporates now are there
spilling blood like crazy in the death camps
and making wolves and the first people share
the ugly vile ambitions that in a few years
at this rate wolves will be no more, all gone
everything will suffer
as our own lives get tougher
life as we now know will not go on

some super state, some vast enclave
will take its place
the wild lands will be fracked
and turned to sludge
tar sands nuclear waste and vile pollution
will be out there
that’s if I judge
the situation as it stands at the moment
the great experiment called energy
natural gas and oil is what they’re after
and the only wildness left is going to be

some renegades some animal rights
some bands of human foresters
who scoffed at slavery and ran away
wolves and all the others
they are rotting in the sod
which all of us do some day
on our death beds we may feel frustrated
elated, then sedated who knows how
but let me just tell you
when you gave the wild souls up
that is when the end came closer too
