Chickens and the snow

Imagine being rescued from a battery

and left to free range in the snow today

how the icy whiteness

feels on your tender feet

and realise that Nature helps

lets them play

the chicken used to wire now face

reality, cold snow

under foot

and they appear

ready to just go

try it

leave their foot prints

in it

and it isn’t long before

countless foot prints

have decimated all the

snow for sure

turned it into slush

and carefuly trodden  mush

a phenomena

that these chicken all now know

after months of being crammed

in cages

to have the sense of freedom

to just go

to just run around

and do it

feel the ice  and snow

its a great experience

to all be in the flow

it must give them some thing

to really talk about

a new experience to tell their chicks

who might be in some doubt

this is freedom this is life

the factory floor was hell

the fresh air and the cold wind

and to experience a cold spell

of life here in the open

free ranging neath the sky

playing with this soft white snow

and really feeling high
