Swansea Jack

In 193o a black retriever
They named him Swansea Jack
A kindly helpful canine
And something he didn’t lack
Was leaping into the water
When anybody fell
And was drowning
Jack would plunge into the water
I hear tell

In six years he saved 27
Human beings who
Would have drowned amazingly
In Swansea it was true
He died in 1937
A valiant beast was he
And they made a bronze memorial
To him upon the quay

Sadly he died of eating
Rat poison on the street
A hero who died so painfully
A victim of poisoned meat
So very sad that human beings
Inconsiderately ended the life
Of a Swansea Jack
A hero
