The animals be conscious
When killed, a mire
Of sadness and cruelty
Which isn’t the way
Allowed in the West
And here in the U.K.
Animal welfare
Trumps religious rights
Animals throats must be
Severed we hear
An uninterrupted movement
Both carotid arteries and jugular veins
Severed by a knife of suitable size
And sharpness, no sawing
When the victim dies
Religious rights
Over animal suffering
That is the question
Apparently
Blessed in halal
And kosher we hear
But this form of slaughter
We do not adhere
