Mari Lwyd

We owe it to Simon
A Druidic man
Who loves Wassailing
And has many a fan
South Wales old traditions
Of visiting those
Groups bands of players
With bells on their toes
An old grey mare
An eponymous horse
A skull a sack cloth
A yuletide force
Visiting ale houses
And richer folk
Handing out booze
It’s more than a joke
It’s tradition
For Christmas and the New year
Pwnco is noted
and all hold it dear

It’s saying aloud
Be in good health
In

It began long ago
Practised with stealth
Offering wassailing liquor
And joy
A party atmosphere
People employ.
