Orangutan’s lament

Such insolence

the attitude of villagers

these days

their presumption

that the native

is the one who pays

high up on the coconuts

where else should he be

thats is where his mother

Put him  in the canopy

the audacity of human beings

selfish disrespect

just call OFI

and expect them to eject

a full grown male

a person of the forest to be sure

who celebrates his freedom

as his ancestors did before.

treating them with enmity

sees ill feeling everywhere

its the lack of  understanding

and not being aware

imagine the great Ape

he don’t feel great

not any more

moved on always moved on

and shouted at

his core

of understanding

chaotic

the poor soul

feels their spite

human beings are far from kind

and we know that he is right

OFI Camp Leakey

takes on all the woe

offers up some tenderness

and sympathy we know

Dr Birute has given her life

for the great Apes night and day

and even in her Autumn time

of life its still her way

to help them and respect them

and somehow try to deal

with ignorance and repugnance

and we know how she must feel

Dear Lady thanks for all you do

an angel without s doubt
