Demise of the streetwise

Soldiers of heinousness
that’s what they are
Not fighting terrorists
Preferring to spar
With the disconsolate
Streetwise and poor
Imagine their innocence
and never ignore
Their present sanctity
Beggars maybe
Consigned to the dust heap
Of adversity

Will they be married
How will they treat
Their partners one wonders
Perhaps they might beat
Challenge and stigmatise
Possibly so
Practice on dogs
Blow after blow

Covered in blood
And bruises galore
Street dogs in China
It’s the new war
Opportunistic scavenging
They
Got their reward
At the end of the day

The rainbow bridge
Or a big cooking pan
Skinned in boiled water
That is the plan
Eating much refuse
Bodily they
May pass on some virus
At the end of the day
