Roadside curled into a ball

There he lay
Hope had left him
Deterioration
And decline
Exhaustion
On a downward course
He bore every sign

Of lack of care
Of lack of love
Of neglect
And agony
His solace broke
Our hearts that day
So we thought that we would be

The ones to give him order
So he would not run away
We used a net to pick him
Up
And kindly we did say
We are taking you to hospital
We can see you are lacking
Care
And so we began our care package
As soon as he got there

He was very very nervous
Untouched for long time
We gave him medicated baths
For the mange produced a slime
A white sloughing of skin
Poor soul
But by day ten
He looked good
A healing had begun
Which showed us that he could

Break out of his depression
But a duty of care
Of love of kisses
Of cuddles
With him we did share
All of them
From all of us
And two months
You could see
A beautiful dog
With perfect skin
Looking back and free

Wagging his tail
Eating snacks
His eyes were bright
And he
Was really enjoying his life again
As anyone could see
All that mange was over
He just looked a treat
Transformed by love
And caring
And pleased when we did greet

Him
