Shanti

“Shanti” in a gulley sat
Quietly her existence at
The crossroads life for her
Was mean
Just meagreness nothing had been
Happy for a long long time
It felt meaningless
To try and climb
Out of where she was today
Weaker really one can say

Of gentle disposition she
Was suffering now constantly
An awful wound that pained her so
She thought she was dying
As the flow
Of life was leaving
Animal aid unlimited came
And on her laid

Their blanket
Lifting her gently to
The hospital
What could they do
She’d was even covered in flies
And their eggs had laid
Maggots were thus
Now on parade
She was very weak
And very sore
But still realised what life was for

They washed her thoroughly
From head to toe
Washed the wound
And they did know
That she was closer to death
Than some
So dressed her wounds
And knew how numb

She was inside
And every day
They changed her dressings
And to her did say
How much they loved her
And patted her too
The genuineness it did accrue

She was dehydrated
Badly so
So very weak
Could she now throw
The negativity from her soul
Engage her spirit
Take on a role
Of she could make it
With love and care
She could do it
Anywhere

She felt outshone
Possibly so
For weeks she suffered
We didn’t know
For certain if she just could
Pull through
Whether in side she wanted to

But the love that’s given
Knows no bounds
There is peace and goodwill
And gentle sounds
There is order and routine
And friends about
It’s harmonious
And when you are out

In the yard it’s sunny
And angels do
Spend Time loving all of you
It’s a lovely place
Where we all are friends
There’s no ugly banter
And of course it sends
Even the sad ones
Into glee
And Shanti she just loved
To be

With us all one of the gang
Displaced animals
Really hang
Together well
Yes we all do
But if we want we can
Just stay true
