“Merry”

Beside the road
We found her
Abandoned all alone
Barely breathing
Lacking mothers milk
And the odd groan
Emaciated body
On very feeble legs
A beautiful little baby
The question though it begs
How can human beings
Be so nasty and so bad
Leaving a baby calf upon the roadside
Its so sad
Its wicked and its sinful
A baby lying there
Whilst human beings drink
The milk
As if they do not care.

Poor “Merry” she was exhausted
An unfallen state was she
And so the angels came for her
And examined her to see
What they could do if anything
To give her a fighting chance
Iv fluids and formula
Help they thought perchance
And sure enough 4 days of this
And lots of love and care
She got up and was walking
And very much aware
Rapidly she grew strong
Calves are patricial souls
Born to walk born to be
Full of true controls
Provided they get mothers molk
And love and loads of care
They well just work miracles
And their love they share

The angels watched her progress
Tail wagging puppy like
She was running around the yard
Quite the little tyke
Getting loads of cuddles
Kisses she got a load
And “Merry” is now quite a star
Which is why I write this ode
