“Kham la” or “darling”

Such Cognizance you feel it
And You know it is there
Actual comprehension
Which really isn’t as rare
As some might think
Wild elephants
Survivors let us say
Rescued in Northern Thailand
At the Elephant Park
Away

You can feel the caring
The familiarity
There is wisdom in the knowing
And a readability
Dereck calls the calf’s name
“Kham La”and we so see
“Darling”comes the sound of drums
Its where he wants to be

With his human friend
their history
His recollection of caring
And of sharing hauntingly
Tantalisingly so
The impact on his whereabouts
He really wants to know

Waiting on that favourite call
Where ever he may be
Exhilaration guaranteed
And pure vitality
An elephant is gleeful
Is unrepining too
It relieves me,
to write this down
When its so very true

There is love and it is evident
Its lyrical and fun
Really an exultation
That isn’t overdone
Theres affection
And theres friendship
And adoration too
And its wonderful to see it and
And feel it as we do
