14 years of hard labour and left on the scrap heap

For 14 years

her struggle was

hard

a draft horse

will be scarred

by all the pulling up

all those hills

carrying loads

none of those frills

just real hard labouring

in the heat

too much weight

on the old feet

too much to carry

tests the heart

with all that  coal

piled in the cart

day after day

just got her down

struggling around the town

now she’s free

of all of that

cannot carry

for where she’s at

no one should ride her

a forever place

is what she needs

where she can pace

herself and feel the suns warm rays

and taste the grass

for all her days

does anyone feel

that she coukd be

perhaps part of their new family
