Who knows what macho
nut cases
roam around these days
in the municipal in Kozani region
there were a lots of strays
some 30 or so wandering
the streets around the town
of Ardassa
but what has transpired
has dragged the region down
to the dumps of expectation
to the gutter of desire
for 30 of these poor sad dogs
were blinded by the fire
of food from some kind stranger
who brought them to be fed
having laced the bowls with poison
enough to kill them dead
but before they died
they were tied with wire
and dragged behind a truck
dragged through flinty stony paths
that burned and cut, their luck
clearly ran out rapidly
when whoever came to smile
and offer them their just reward
a rather dangerous pile
of poisoned food and they of course
were hungry
there gums were red and raw
their ribs were poking skywards
some were at death’s door
when man un kind was let loose
to destroy them and to see
them die screaming in that far off field
where some were seen to be
vomiting and retching their stomachs
distended so
whatever the bloody poison was
the agony did grow
one dog, was shot, through the head
and lay in a pool of blood
and one pregnant cat, was shot as well
in what must have been a thud
as it crushed her tiny stomach
as she realised that she
was perishing in this awful field
with her babies numbered three
the villagers are beside themselves
what some of their kind have done
thought themselves so clever
and did they enjoy the fun
of murdering these innocent souls
whose only crime was they
were put out on the streets by human scum
I have to say
