Some call them beasts of burden I call them Donkeys what do you call them?

Unthinking
No that’s no excuse
unintellectual
No that will not do
unimaginative
well, possibly
thoughtless inattentive
inconsiderate
they could be too

they fit into a special box
where ignorance is rife
these cruel unthinking traders
whose casualness for life
not there’s
but others
like that trusty Donkey
at their side
indifferent to its squalor
slovenly they hide

their judgement clearly
shot away
and what of course we see
is the soul expected to carry
vast weights and regularly
drivellers and dotards
unsound themselves in mind
torturing that Donkey
delusional, I find

the soul will try its utmost
to carry what it can
but the straw that broke
the camels back
means the Donkeys back
began
as a very tough and powerful
source
which could do most things well
but this savageness this terror
these infidels from Hell

have broken him have torn his heart out
every sinew taut
ruptured on his last legs
when sympathy he sought
not a chance in hell of that
expletives near and far
smacked and kicked and broken
this is where we are

this is what we do to them
this is how we scar
the innocent
they care for us
ultimately they pay
the price and enter deaths door
every single day
