Calgary stampede ( its where the men hang out) and 50 horses have died from 1986 to 2012

Equestrian rodeo
that’s what they call it
a team of pure thoroughbred’s
hoping to win
pulling a chuck wagon racing
like hell round a circuit
and what its about, it is
sin
thousands of dollars
its really big money
so everyone does it, to win it
the din
of the wagons the horses
the crowd the occasion
its a once in a year
celebration of power
but why? well the reason
is now wearing thin
that’s how some see it
the thrust of those horses
and wagons behind them
its one hell of a stour

and of course there is danger
and injury too
a bit of a mishap
and what can one do
crashes occur
horses will die
riders too suffer
which is now why

I as a soul who feels
what we should do
is protect our animals
that is my view
putting them potentially
into harms way
and inflicting injury
even, for one day

it isn’t sport
or what humans need
what we do on our own
that’s one thing, indeed
all sorts of dangers
we can take on
but asking an animal
that’s when we’ve gone

over the top
for the voiceless
can’t say
one way or the other
they just have to
play

ball and the ball game
is likely to be
a terrible stress to them
as we can see
the figure of 50 dead horses
to me
is 50 too many
it thus shouldn’t be

the Calgary festival
sorry the time
has come to now stop it
as sponsorships climb
and more people go for it
chancing their arm
and the animals suffer
and come to great harm

its where the men hang out
well if men believe
they have to race wagons
now to achieve
success then I’m sorry
they sing the wrong song
for what they are doing
for me, is just wrong
