He may have been demonized but he is no devil

Imagine go back thousands of years
when there were no ranching men
they just were never thought of
and now come back again
to the land where wolves
have run and played
and hunted night and day
the light the dark the wind the storm
its all come their way

and all these years
through many incarnations they evolved
instincts sharpened problems thought through
most things they have solved
as time advanced
the wolf advanced
and came into the light
he filled a million story books
he never felt contrite

he lived where creation put him
clearly, that was his place
he could wander tirelessly
and the animals he could chase
and did, an apex predator
his balance and his flow
could be seen as organic
and so his fame did grow

but now a vile dark thunderbolt
as swept down from the sky
man the so called hunter
is gunning for him
and why?
because he’s there to shoot at
because he’s there to blame
because seemingly he’s voiceless
and goes after the game

there’s no doubt he’s a wild soul
wilderness born and bred
with a heart that runs forever
I mean he’s never led
a more significant lifestyle
than now for what we see
is this brave soul is hunted
and looked down upon for he

is the villain, of the piece
its always him that’s wrong
despite the fact that he’s living
where he always did belong
it makes no odds to Ranchers
they haven’t got a clue
they only care about themselves
and what they choose to do

so now there’s such a conflict
with profits at the root
man is after killing him
and hoping he will scoot
out of where they are ranching
or hunting, anywhere
just high tail out of their space
which they are not prepared to share

so what of a wild creature
what chance is there, he
can take these hits
now day and night
and still come back and be
as prevalent and as wonderful
as he has ever been
and now it is debatable
for his attackers they are mean

they use money and corruption
they lobby statesmen to
pass new laws allowing
the wolf to be cut into
trapped and lured
if we endured
the evils put upon
him I’m sure
I’m very sure
that by now we’d all be gone
