The injured hunter

A man fell in the forest
his leg was broken bad
he couldn’t walk
he dare not shout
and he was very sad
to make a noise
he thought
would possibly
alert
a beast
could come and eat him
a’lying in the dirt

and so he remained
motionless
and sleep did overcome
waking he was so surprised
for sitting around him some
animals
big earthlings
little earthlings too
they’d come to try and help him
and see what they could do

the deer said
let me lick your wounds
then sepsis won’t set in
the lion said let me carry you
to the edge,
come on,just grab my skin
the snake said grab me
come on grab me by the tail
I will help you too
we’ll take the safest trail

the animals were clearly moved
but he wondered what they’d do
he had been a hunter
Yes his whole life through
he had killed them with his gun
dressed up in his camouflage
and had lots of fun
and now so badly injured
there he lay alone
bleeding in such agony
more than he’d ever known

he fell asleep a second time
and was woken by falling rain
his leg was cleaned
and almost healed
and didn’t have as much pain
he was lying near the road
this dream he had had changed him
and no gun would he re load

he became a photographer
and kept cats in his barn
began to write for animals

Mary an did you like my yarn
I hope so
it was written for you
