The Canopy Children

Tis true Orangutan
Once roamed the tree-tops
Till man of finite culture
came to be
He tore the trees
And sawed the trunks
His action
Brought a chill cold wind
Deep into me
He spoke of soul and culture
He a being
Higher than the poor
Orangutan
Tis true Orangutans
once roamed the tree-tops
But now the wild are tamed
Of course by man
Whose zoo’s are full of
silent sickly creatures
Gazing just at pictures
of some trees
I look into the mirror
of the moment
And wish that I
could satisfy their plea’s
