The mindset of the rural craftsman

A Dry stone Waller

standing true

A precise and local art form

View

those local stones
tradition rules

intelligence as culture calls

dressing and placement

working outside

it feels to me

those who confide

Of porosity and lasting power

compression wise

With each passing hour

frost

resistance

too it seems

the builders heartfelt way

redeems

his strength and purpose

naturally

ashlar or rubble

powerfully

Self supported seemingly

alliteration honestly

visually attractive

to the eye

Puzzling  those who  do apply

Their rural crafts and wisdom, they

where plants  thrive

building every day

a medium exceptionally

a local craft bound to survive

Rural crafts apparently

use is made conceptually

a living art form standing bold

brought to life  it’s stories told

of igneous rocks  of belching fire

of fields  of stone

yes they do perspire

in Summers heat

in Winters wet

That’s most dry stone wallers

that I have met.
