Archie

Archie came from Ireland
Several moons ago
Point to point
And now retired from all of that
A glow
His age and his experience
Being loved and cared for, He
Will soon be coming
To Hawthorn Hart
A place where mystery

And magick is available
A wild flower meadow where
Some gorgeous wild herbs
Tend to grow
Their secrets he may share
Wild horses and ponies
Develop their wonderful own ways
They get to know the healing herbs
It’s more than just a phase
They go through being sensitive
Meadows are great places
Where herbals can be found
To help them through their paces

Archie’s eyes of ebony
Shaped differently from ours
They are large of course
And every horse
Has these amazing powers
On the side of their heads
Unlike us
Their overall vision
Is wide
Being prey animals in the wilds
Needs be
Something inside

360 degree of range
Spherical they can
Have marvellous sight
Yes at night
Unlike common man
They detect the smallest movement
And can see afar
A changeable lens shape
Honestly to me
they are the star

Nature has its pitfalls
In a paddock one might know
Where wildness is apparent
A horse will tend to show
Some in house inclination
To understand that they
Can self heal with wild medicinals
Learned by them each day

Humans many have lost that power
Which is why the witch can be
Helpful to the horse that
Lives
in a broad field
and we
As caring sharing animal lovers
Must appreciate
In our spaces there are lots
Of good inside the farm gate

Thistles dandelions stinging nettles
Mint and burdock they
Red clover cow parsley,hawthorn
Hazel way
more in fact on offer
Blackberries, rose hips they
Willow and rosemary and calendula heal
Along the way

Looking at Dear Archie
He has a loving look
One must remember in new places
To look beyond the book
Look Out for herbs that are harmful
Like ragwort,and sycamore
Acorns nightshade hemlock and yew
And of course
Some more
buttercups
Laburnum privet laurel there
Bracken fern is deadly
We all must be aware
Look after darling Archie
He is such a lovely boy
I love his eyes and his handsome face
He’s a bringer of pure joy.
