Hare Coursing

Leave our Hares  alone

I say

the sport of Coursing

does away

With Hares that go about

And give

their wild true  legs

Its how they live

which perhaps is why

the need to be, to eat to rest

And  the family

of Hares  does best

an enduring life

of vegetation

and some salvation

Rich in spirit

from the various grasses

buds and stems

of different classes

up against the Coursing mob

with their Sight Hounds ready

to do a job

to chase a Hare

Given 100 yards

to get away

Its on  the cards

Two dogs  set

and watch them go

the clatter of paws

and hot breath you know

its a sort of  contest

with points to win

its popular  around Kings Lynn

East Anglia  some 9 clubs be

out there coursing  regularly

Fanatic hunters sporty types

Like to argue  and high on gripes.

those illegal Coursers all they do

Is test  their dogs

in flighted view

“Turning “the hare

and watching it run

a vile bloodsport

Which if  spun

can encourage the coursers

and the dogs, them  too

So  watch the sight hounds

come on through

points are had

Prize  money  too

some get killed

its what they do

It is  torture  on a scale

out of thirty hunts  five may fail

its outside the law

and we all know why

its basically cruel

unsportingly so

the challenge to leave well alone and see

its a parallel path to insanity

agility strength and the

guile to turn

from rough ground to fields

Thats how  we learn

It is  a bloodsport anyway

Shows  strength and stamina

the concern

agility

and casualties

too many now we learn

whether for the table

or for sport

its banned thank goodness

without a thought

i do agree a hare in flight

Really is  a marvellous sight

but with sight hounds chasing

I have to say

whatever the reason

its wrong all day.
