The forest is no place for hunters by wild decree

On bended knee
I meditate
looking to the sky
and thinking quietly
in my heart
of the young
elks passing by

in their thickets
foraging
for the food
they need each day
unlike the hunters
living in their concrete
box who pay
scant attention
to the tribes
who forage near and far
they walk barefoot on gods own earth
and can gaze up at each star
Hunters
where do they go to buy
most of their food
at the hypermarket store
where everyone seems hyper
buying more and more
and it comes from
every quarter
unlike the wild young Deer
who eat what they were born to eat
in the season of the year

their instinct which they still
possess tells them its the way
prawns and fish and other meats
and fat if it doesn’t lay
in the natural forest
it will not reach their throat
unlike the hunter fellow
who on anything may dote

the natural forest dweller
who knows where they are at
their environment is the wild woods
where nothing makes them fat
and who expects a hunter
to come around and play
at killing
or the trapper
to pass the time of day

innocent and unsuspecting
with all those dire iron bolts
thick wire straps and frantic slaps
we know that result
but we’ve reached a time, an epiphany
in many ways, when we
have sufficient in our larders
and the wild folk could be free

they after all provide a balance
creation has designed
perfection, my rejection
is the hunter
whose assigned
to killing, maiming, breaking
up families causing woe
for killing members affecting others
where grief can be on show

so some bold
hunter/trapper
can have his bit of fun
and go back to his day time job
of course minus his gun
its nine to five
its, he’s alive
until it suits him, when
he gets into his 4x 4
and goes hunting agen (again)
