South Dakota you will pay for this

When you under value people
when you take their rights away
Don’t ever imagine that what you do
you will not have to pay
farming out the first peoples children
to the white foster home
is a crime against humanity
and one day the thickest tome

will be written up in heaven
you wait I know you see
Australia tried this infamy
and paid a price, for me
to see now what is happening
sickens me more and more
the First People have such culture
and their history means more

to them than ever yours does
and to treat them as you do
is heartless and its so unfair
there that is my view
it tears into my guts it does
for they are so profound
so in tune with nature
they’ve lived there on the ground

they know the ways of nature
they understand and do
appreciate gods gift of life
unlike some of you
open your eyes America
go look at Ecuador
there the quichua Indians
and the Shuar oh yes they are sure
they have a place in the country
respect its clear to see
and all the tribes should be given
due respect and that’s the key

respect for they are people
with hearts the same as you
closer to the land perhaps
but they are just as true
and their true ancestors
took the land and they
loved it, worked it, primed it
they sweated blood each day

their lands have been usurped
you know its true it was never fair
and now what you are doing to their children
drives me spare
don’t foster out their children
to white families it is wrong
let them learn their culture
let them please stay strong

respect each individual
respect the nation state
this action you are taking South Dakota
I don’t rate
and one day like Australia
you will realise the pain
and its truly devastating
that its happening again

when we never learn from our mistakes
there is no future, we
will sink into the abyss my friends
and that’s extraordinary
look at the first people
consider who they are
learn from them share with them
Don’t banish them too far
away from what is their birthplace
their children are their right
and South Dakota think again
and just reverse this blight
