Blackthorn

A native of Ireland

as green as can   be

Prunus Spinosa

a wild plum,  of a tree

the berries named Sloes

after Autumns harsh frost

taste a whole lot better

Within that bitterness lost

it feels like barbed wire

such a thorny intent

a very hard wood

as a hedge it is bent

on being able

to withstand a deal

of weather and  animals

Coming to heel

used by the dyers

and medicinals too

there are hints of cyanide

thus one must view

and take heed of this poison

For  one’s own sake

it be the fairies

the lunantishees  take

who may punish anyone

who damages  trees

old Beltaine Eve

a date if you please
