Glass eels

In the great Sargasso Sea

each larvae spawns and possibly we

see them drifting on ocean currents

for a year or two they be

as they approach the EU shores

they all metamorphise

into transparent tiny eels

swimming like the clappers

into estuaries,  surprise

growing into elvers

migrating up stream

taking decades to grow larger

under their own steam

Migrate back to the ocean

but they are in steep decline

not helped by dams not helped by weirs

Their futures  on the line

Hydropower and pollution too

Loss of wetlands, illegal fishing

smuggling  what we do.?
