Street dog under a porch

Lying panting underneath
A porch Yes there he lay
The worse for wear
All alone
Living with despair
In India in Udaipur
Rajasthan was he
Really very very sick
As sick as he could be

By the hand of fortune
An animal hospital saw
Their willingness to help him
They were receptive
And whats more
Eager and ungrudgingly
Carried from the place
Mange covered his body
And his little face

He was sick and lonely
Maggots in his back
Their initiative was wonderful
He was under such attack
Others had been reluctant
To notice him and he
Was clearly very close to death
In a deal of agony

The angels from the shelter
Took him gently they
Loved him washed him tended him
Every single day
All his scabs they washed him
How they did persevere
Their singlemindedness with him
Was very very clear

And he was very mindful too
Wanting the love and care
Not screaming he was quietly
So very aware
No one had cared for ages
He was starving every day
Dirty, full of grime and dust
He was rotting away

But now their care and diligence
Their meticulous display
Thoughtful and painstaking
So much melted away
His anxiety his alertness
Came back and he could feel
The love all of them shared with him
It was so very real

Their fondness and understanding
Such devotion for him, he
Was once again in love with life
It felt so good to be
Loved and picked up and cuddled
His tail wagging with joy
Licking caring faces
Not those he did annoy

Humanity regained respect
Again he felt secure
His carers were enlightened
For him life became pure
Their compunction and their pity
And, their gentleness
Clearly he was grateful
It wiped away the stress

His coat grew back
It was lustrous he just felt good again
One of the family hopeful
Under a new refrain
Of happiness and laughter
Of gleefulness and joy
He really was glad to be alive
His mothers Favourite boy
