Red sand forts

They stand out in the estuary
In about one hundred feet
Of sea water these massive forts
The Maunsell gun towers meet
All of the objectives
When built in 43
To shoot down Nazi aircraft
And the doodlebugs
That be

Sent over to England
From Germany
And they
Each holding 264 men
They Quite saved the day
Six miles off of Minster
Planted in the sea
Operated by the navy
And successful actually

They loom out of the mist
Their ghostly towers
Appear to be
Something that is a surprise
Thats If you ask me
They were made up on the land
And erected out at sea
Planted there
Amazingly
And Still there
For all to see

The design was clearly
Able to withstand the forces there
Pounded by the salty sea
Each one kind of square
A sort of extra terrestial look
Weird to modern man
Built in 1943
To what was a clever plan
For despite the time
They have been there
They are still there to this day
Having seen the pirate radio’s
Off
And Project Redsand’s play

A kind of voluntary maintenance
Angels taking care
Of what is rather special
And I am happy to know they are there.
