Medieval pots

The art of making medieval ceramics
Caught my eye
The restoration of ancient skills
And now we can apply
The simple things around us
Without the need to use
Modern applications
Really how to fuse

The art of skill and patience
With common river clay
Water and manure
Is pounded in a way
By the feet of the artisan
For 4o minutes he
Mixes up the ingredients
With his dance as we can see

Get some granite clippings
Mix for half an hour
Make a wheel a simple potters wheel
And Use your power

Gentle as you mould the clay
And add the sausage lengths
And gradually build up the pot
Using all your strengths
Gently demonstrating
The elasticity
And forming a real lovely pot
For anyone to see

A tinder fire is started
Some wood and some charcoal
Get it really white hot
And place the pots
The role
of fire will bake
The natural clay and harden it
2 hours and 40 minutes
Gives it that true feel
Maybe it is archaic but
It is very real

All done by hand
And outside in the forest maybe where
It was healthy it was gentle
Breathing natural air
Working with light and patience
Building up the skill
And all done without
Compromising energy
The will

To do this and see the results
Has a lot of meaning for we
Can do these things
And awaken the art
And that is key
Which truly brings
A greater satisfaction
Into this present day
For we can make our own pots
And the planet doesn’t pay

Reviving ancient crafts
Is good
It’s curative and healing
It liberates in many ways
And, it is revealing
Talents that you had
And can develop
More each day
To revive and repair
And to be aware
Of your own skills
That will pay. Dividends

Thank you to Ovcharenko Aleksey
Somewhere in Moscow Russia
For making this little film and showing us
That it is possible with a little and effort
To do wonderful things on this earth
