A fish gasps for air

One fish represents the trillions
Taken every year
Such blatant destruction
Certainly its clear
The pirates and the corporations
And every fishing fleet
The long lines and the seine nets
Feeding the elite

The ugliness and greediness
The vast network of nets
The failure to have any sense
And of course the massive debts
Accruing in the oceans
In our precious seas
Rivers farms just everywhere
There are catastrophes

Happening every second
Clawing from the sea
Everything there thats alive
As if it all is free
There is no badge of honour
Nobody seems to care
Its steal and murder everything
Every soul thats there
Baby fish and huge great fish
Just catch and kill and eat
Absolutely free of scruples
In every way just cheat

Whales and dolphins and porpoises
And every kind of fish
For all the myriad markets
For every sodding dish
The TV chefs can muster up
They are hoovering up all life
A tiny fish lies paralysed
Waiting for your knife
Your samphire and your lemon sauce
As it absorbs the strife

I say give up you murderers
Trawled up along with more
Than any of you dreamed of
Dying just off shore
Every single mollusc shrimp
Prawn crab and more
What we scrape out of existence
Off the ocean floor

Its absolutely awful
The carnage everyday
Even fish we cannot eat
Are torn and pulled away
There are no guidelines
Anymore
Just ugliness and shame
Just evil and its hard to see
Just how you inflame

The hearts and mind of many of us
Protecting the sea
Trying to help the abundance
Of life that swim there free
That Swims through human excrement
Plastics and crude oil
Radiation PCB’s it does make my blood boil
To see their pain and hear their cries
And watch the fishing fleets
Scooping up the precious life
That avidly competes

In what is the great ocean of life
For what we do
Is kill ourselves we are slaughtering
The life forms and its true
Each day our greed takes more and more
And more and more and more
We leave a sterile polluted earth
In fact its an all out war

The oceans are now close to death
The coral gardens too
All life on earth is threatened
And it is all down to YOU
The greedy psychopathic beings
Whose desire so strong
Is apparently to eat everything
No matter how wrong

The recipes of disaster
All empathy is gone
And the perils growing faster
Beyond and out upon
The seas and rivers loaded
With the excrement of man
A hell hole from a heavenly place
Life being lost without a trace

One little fish looks skywards
Gasping now for breath
Eyes popping out of her tiny head
We know soon that her death
She is just another victim
Happening today
The slaughtering is grossly overdone
And there is no way

That life now can recover
We have blown our chances here
The food chain is being totally destroyed
And so much fear
Encountered in the oceans
So much enmity
Our ungratefulness is shattering
Our thanklessness must be

Beyond the pale into a maelstrom
Of improbity
Our total lack of conscience
Our complete obliquity
Our worthlessness our complicity
In the scourge that we now know
Is rumbling below the waves
As our laxity does grow

It is wickedness and iniquity
Our humanity is lost
What we have allowed is outrageous
And an unbelievable cost
Creating gave us everything
A flourish to atone
An immaculacy so beautiful
But our evil we have sown

Our seeds of death are everywhere
Destruction is to be
The end the end of all of us
Whose wish was just to see
The wonders of creation
The miracles of life
To share the want of splendour
Which now is open strife

And perhaps our day of reckoning
Is sooner than we think
And our retribution will be harsh
For we are now on the brink
Whether there could be a way back
Now I am not sure
For the Prince of darkness hovers
just above our door
