Pageants and elephants dont mix

India should by now know that Elephants
The heaviest of land animals are in stress
Marching through the streets clad in regalia
It puts their whole demeanour in a mess
There is no give in the roads unlike the natural earth
And so their feet are very often sore
Then the shackles that we make them wear all day
Its something really nobody can ignore

Pageant after pageant makes them angry
No time to rest their aching bodies, they
Are made to walk in line wrapped up in silks so fine
In truth fir these wild souls this is not the way
They are positive and full of life created
Immortal beings stronger then 10 men
Grounded, flesh and muscle of the giants
Each step is an effort and so when
The crowds move in much closer and their noise
Becomes much louder
The intensity really that is then
It boils over and the amiable fellow
May break and want to go and do his thing
Being curtailed by this derogatory business
All he wants is really to have his fling

Alongside all these roads the screaming villagers
Clad in many colours it just makes
The wild soul who would meditate and quietly
Get stressed out and bound to make mistakes
We have to understand what is monotony
With pain and stress comes incidences like these
Nothing there to compensate the elephant
That really wants to drop down on his knees

The past takes him to phaajan and the agony
His broken spirit from so along ago
Why must he walk the streets and hear cicada
The blistering heat and his aching feet we grow
It transcends just everything that he is doing
For this is causing him to fret and be
A lost soul in a world of such confusion
In fact actually like a refugee

Embroiled in all this stridor all these cornets
Confusion and a pandemonium roar
Elephants need an order to their evening
Or they are likely to break and run for sure
We have to realise they are wild and weary
The repercussions of such pageants do
Play havoc with old injuries and undermine
Their patience
And when they snap what you have to do

Is run just get away don’t try and stop them
For like the gate you’ll be trampled over you
Will look more like a pancake on a searing stove
Your bones crushed up and broken and clueless too
i think the powers to be and all these trainers
Have to come to terms with who they are
Elephants need respect but never cruelty
AndShackling their ankles is bound to scar
