23 Babies

Remember the 23 Elephant
Babies Zimbabwe has sold
To China A zoo
in Qingyung
Sadly not ready, a view
That saddens the heart
Of this poet
And I know AR protestors who
See all these babies locked
In tiny cages
No water no future no clue

The zoo won’t be opened
For another two years
So this is their miserable fate
The government has to now intervene
Or these babies will die
Its not great

Zimbabwe was too quick to sell them
China to quick to buy
Quarantine its just so awful
And these 23 Ele’s will die

What a terrible inhuman process
These pachyderms must now ask how
They have to be rescued
And given some place
Where they all can live in the now

All stolen from their mothers
Little lost souls
Tortured like this
In fact
They are wild animals
And how can they now react

China compassion is needed today
Or you will be blamed for their deaths
Come what may
2018 is too far away
Look at them they are now
Dying each day

Crying inside bleeding they be
No water to cool them
Its a tragedy
And they are all babies
Far far away
From their homes
from their mothers
So Help them today

I beg of you

This is so terrible. Poor little babies. They need to be found homes where they can grow and then be reintroduced to their natural world with other families of elephants. Please don’t let them die. Poor babies
