Mjudjie

She was thirty three years young
Our dearest Mjudjie
On affection she nurturing and kind
Mothering so many baby Vervets
A surrogate with such a lovely mind

She closed her eyes and passed
The rainbow bridge no doubt is where
She hangs upon some glorious tree
Happily aware
Of all the fruits and insects
And flowers and leaves that she
Will taste and chew forever
On the sweetest tallest tree

She was self conscious and
sentient
A responsiveness to boot
An attitude of sharing
Really from the root
An unction to be earnest
And did so through and through
A member of the family
Always good and true

That they must die
And leave us
Brings the tears to flood
Its very hard to lose her
A sympathetic bud
Of genius within her soul
A heart as big as she
To humans and to vervet’s
Who She cared for tenderly

She just had loads of spirit
An ecstasy of joy
Delighted and enraptured
With any simple toy
She would play and show the babies
Each blissful interlude
In the haunting world
Of primates
Her amazing attitude

And can we bear her passing
Each scurry sent us wild
To us she was so special
And a lovely little child
To lose her is so saddening
Its difficult not to weep
To know I cannot gaze at her
And see her in my sleep

To share that wealth of knowledge
She was clearly in her prime
Her loving heart was so immense
The great passing of time
Took her onto higher plains
Beyond the jungle roar
And we shall miss her dreadfully
Really for evermore
