Refugee no.2

We have climbed up in this truck
In desperation
Amongst the sacks and drums
The children too
The journey long and vile
God knows whats on the dial
No food no water
What were we going to do

No paperwork to speak of
Loads of bruises
Climbing in the truck
It was too high
This really is endurance and discomfort
And the Air in here is making me want to cry

We cling together weeping
Its painfully unpleasant
To be sure
The vehicle was not checked at the border
The box not opened and in fact whats more
No matter now how calm how quiet
We have ever been
In amongst these big sacks
We just knew
If our destination wasn’t very close to where we were
We wouldn’t be able to hold out which is true

Victims we are victims
And some might ask me why
Would I risk my children’s lives
For may be we shall die
Not even a place to piss in
Thats how tight it was as well
Going back to memories
Of past loves
Couldn’t take away
This present Hell

We clung together
Breathing became difficult
The lorry trundled on and on and on
Lots of really bumpy roads
Keeping the speeding down
That was until all of us
Were yea gone

Palestine was a war torn hell hole outpost
We stayed there but were tormented noon and night
Beaten sworn at frightened at every checkpoint
We could never ever find the light
We lived in a bombed place across the river
For months the children hadn’t been to school
We couldn’t get fresh water and as for my young daughter
Just to get her there I broke every rule

We held hands knowing life for us was over
In London they would find us and would know
How desperate we all were to get to Britain
4 more statistics right on there we go
