Its an all out war
With consequences conceivably much greater
Than many could imagine
For the elephant may be
The victim for such numbers
Are being slaughtered daily
And extinction is a distinct possibility
Africa is reeling from the growth
Of criminality
The poaching gangs in the Gabon
In the forests where we see
A smaller heavy tusked elephant
Whose ivory is pinker
And hard as nails so sought after
And where these animals wander free
Minkebe’s vast forests where roads are few
And far between
Tracking poachers isn’t easy
Rich pickings there have been
Coming from the Cameroon these violent
Hunting renegades
Fight their way through heavy bush
And the numbers killed are obscene
Such thunder it reverberates
The losses are catastrophic
AsiA is a market place for Ivory today
Everyone is at it
Government officials corruption
Its official it obviously does pay
Its an ugly hideous scene of woe
A repellant trail of death
Wherever forest elephants go
They are fighting for their breath
12 Northern Ireland soldiers
are being drafted in
To aid with intelligence gathering
And surveillance and to win
And train the local rangers
In this vast jungle terrain
Its dangerous work for these poachers
Are generally insane
Life to them means nothing
Its the wages that they earn
An elephant is the food upon their table
No concern
At all for all the killings
Its all matter of fact
So what is going to happen now
Depends on how they react
Its not an easy task for
British soldiers
Ali Bongo Ondimba clearly feels
Burning stockpiled ivory sends a message
But with the numbers being killed there
It reveals
Armies of poachers going in there
Every day
They have free reign they have the upper hand
To get around this situation really
Everyone has got to understand
Poachers should be shot on sight
No quarter
Corrupt government people
Straight in gaol
Ivory importers raise the stakes with them
Otherwise all of this will fail
The thunder and the lightening it is present
Africa is losing this great fight
100,000 elephants have fallen
To save this situation they need might
The president he owns a house in London
His children go to public school here he
Must raise his game in the Gabon
Get behind his rangers
The tougher the better if he is going to see
An improvement in the elephant population
Already it is so out of control
Hunters and poachers really have to realise
We look upon them as creatures without soul
Cowards who stalk the elephants and kill them
Hacking off their tusks in vile displays
Craven spirited ghouls who use the denseness of the jungle
And their indiscretion to control
Lets hope the British soldiers can make a difference
Lets hope the trade in ivory can be
Thwarted at the borders the gangs can be diminished
For otherwise no elephants will we see
Africa must now get our support and every pLace
Must ban the sale of ivory which is a sad disgrace
Governments can do this China there is a need
So many animals slaughtered in the forests how they bleed
Unbelievable creative forces being lost each day
For insignificant trinkets on the road to Mandalay
Each of us must look out for the elephants we must try
Sign petitions write to governments try to keep our eye
On everything thats elephant for otherwise the cost
Is immeasurable its terrible thats when Africa has lost
Its last elephant and thats not too far off at this rate
