The african leopards

No matter how important the panther is we see
Hunters and farmers and the commercial world now
So threateningly
Abusing them for their skins and so creating a saddened state
Where panthers are being slaughtered at an alarming rate

South Africa has got to some how get to grips with this
The wild iconic animals bring africa much bliss
But killing them and abusing them is unsustainable stuff
And really looking at numbers truthfully not enough

Was being done to highlight this till Panthera came along
Set up to protect the species to sing the leopards song
To impress upon the Shembe church that wild skins had to be
Replaced by fake fur it was cheaper and they would have to see

Their way to using fake fur to save the leopard or
Face the possibility they are lost for evermore
Mozambique and Zimbabwe were abusing them because
Their laws were lax and uncaring but really now it was

Possible to make a fabric almost as good as the real
Panther Skins and much cheaper in quality and feel
18,000 furs are coming via China we now hear
Supported by Cartier and really it is clear

We have to save the animals not slaughter them at will
For these creatures are iconic and their blood we must not spill
The church has tried to change its tune and hope is at last here
And The amambatha’s in fake fur will quite soon appear
Which will save so many Panthers being slaughtered one would say
And this will be the answer and should now save the day
