Freedom at last and the joy we feel

We never imagined it possible
It was though of course our desire
We have languished in what was
A dark Buddhist cell
Our spirits were low and were dire
The world at large they had been hoodwinked
Imagining we were at rest
In a paradise state
But that was all force
It was prison we were captives
At best

It was no laughing matter
Despondent were we
Joyless and unnerved
And so dreary
Subdued and crestfallen
Lamenting all day
Heart sick and unhappy
And made to pay

With monks
People think our existence
Would be idyllic
But how we did pay
Such sorrow, displeased
Our tearfulness there
Wet eyed and mournful
And cast to despair

A false sense of overture
The permeation
It was our elegy
Not our salvation
A wail of woe
Pathetic, were we
Lost souls in fact
Left to grizzle and be

Many of you came
To pat us and see
You paid the monks money
That seemed to be
The future of us
Just increasing our woe
A long guarantee
With no place to go

But the activists out there
On Facebook and such
They became the informed
They were not out of touch
They could feel when we weeped
When we whimpered and moaned
Hating the handling
They wrote and they phoned
And the government heard this
They listened they knew
What was happening here
It just was all true

We were left here to languish
Our spirits were low
We felt suicidal
The misery show
Our disgust for life
Our solemn embrace
Our lugubrious status
All over the place

And we have been granted
A freedom at last
From this so called temple
We have got a blast
Of fortune
Of cheerfulness
And vitality
Our sparkle has come
With vivacity
Farewell to those monks
The jailers of fate
Good day to the jovial
Buoyant and great
Lighthearted debonair
Genial few
Who have granted us favours
Both lovely and new

What a relief
Our faith is restored
Refreshed on a path
We shan’t be ignored
Not any more
Our consolation
Freedom to roam
That is the notion
