Layla

South Los Angeles
There she was
Shivering against a wall
Dirty and dishevelled
Someone made that call
Saw her there and
We were on our way
And there we found
Layla a sweet angel soul
The prettiest of hound

We put a collar lead on her
Her acceptance told a lot
So early she was frightened
Almost welded to the spot
But trust was in her little heart
And clearly on her mind
And she allowed us close to her
Which you do not always find

She was whimpering but appreciative
Safely she could feel
We had come to help her
That instantly felt real
And she licked and kissed her rescuer
With such warmth and sanctity
Clearly she was satisfied
With all that she could see

She was nervous and bedraggled
And intestinal flaws
Hospitalised for 14 days
She’ been through the wars
Her foster family came to see her
Every single day
Patted her and loved her
before they left each day

Layla made good progress
She was trusting she did know
That she was being rescued
And her new family did know
How to love and care for her
Neglect would never be
A part of her life she was sure
Of that as we could see
