slaughterhouses everywhere
are killing behind closed doors
millions of animals throats slashed
to almost no applause
in Japan they do the killing
out in the open where
school children can be walking by
and can absorb all that despair
in many ways they are different
from what we do back here
slaughtering on the pavement
accepting the avid fear
pigtails and the satchels
very little girls
forced to see and hear the pain
through their school girl curls
sounding rods were
utilized
out there in the sea
which interfered with their sonar
poor souls frantically
calling to each other
mothers to their calves
nobody abandons
any wounded dolphins
halves
will go to her
the other half protect her if they can
unlike human beings
if they have to die they plan
to die and that’s their feeling
they never leave someone
drowning in dire peril
none of them will run
they are worthy spirits
sentient and calm
loving towards their offspring
no one will chance their arm
they love and in fact they care so much
and of course it shows
but the Japanese are merciless
which of course does pose
a dilemma in the port of Taiji
for thousands of them die
pithed and cut up violently
with pain levels so high
wrapped up in resentment
in agony for they
are as sentient as the day is long
and there’s little one can say
out come the machete’s
to carve through bodies, they
suffer how they suffer
blood pouring away
flapping slapping crapping
the terror its all there
under tarps and on the streets
adding to the despair
Japan displays the carnage
turns the blue sea red
cuts the dolphins out in the streets
and we are then led
to experience the horror
to listen as they die
to watch them flapping frantically
and staring with their big eye
slowly suffocating
shuddering abroad
convulsing you can feel their pain
don’t get over awed
don’t look away
you have to
watch this carnage play
out across Japan and in the cove
and in every bay
the fishermen are numb to it
their faces glazed and pale
the international pressure
the really awful tale
that comes out onto television
of dolphins in their prime
slaughtered in the water
yes time after time
from September
through to March
their deaths go up to 20 thou
very resilient and sentient souls
and most of us ask how?
why is this still happening
when the worlds eyes bear down on
Taiji and its blood money
and the victims that are now gone
stolen from their families
torn to pieces by
machetes raging at them
as many of them cry
as many of them splutter
they utter dying calls
as many of the matter
but not so fisher fools
nasty ugly fisher folk
who use the time to kill
to render them in the death throes
till their blood does spill
does pour out of each being
and stain the beach and waves
with sinew wrenched from deep within
to create these watery graves
