The Hen Harrier has little chance of survival

Not one chick as hatched in Britain

what a terrible refrain

a bird of prey, a handsome

soul

who needs us right away

the problem is we are up against

the rich the prominent lot

the grouse shooters

the land owners

and what a lot they have got

its all about big money

how the price of land

increases if there’s Grouse to shoot

which some don’t understand

Heather moorlands are the environment

where these birds require

less arrogance and ignorance

and less of the fire

burning down the heather

prevents the nesting sites

controlling pests with chemicals

means the harrier fights

everyone and sundry

and cannot exist here

if the habitat is ruined

and its food source

cut

its clear

Land Owners want more Grouse around

they don’t want birds of prey

killing some off for their food

which is  happening today

of course the birds are protected

but what goes on sadly does

mean that these birds suffer

for them there is no buzz

for them the would be customers

those shooters let us say

can be the toffs from DEFRA and perhaps

the NFA

and so what chance the Hen Harrier

competing with this bunch

who want to bag increased amounts of Grouse

and thats the crunch

drainage ditches more dry soil

its all against those birds

and unless we see a change of heart

then all we will have are words
