Its a busy old street
thats called Knightsbridge
with a lot of foot fall
I can say
we were parked left and right
of their doors
megaphones blast
ing away
banners and leaflets
and repetitive chants
and we kept them all
up through the day
Robert positioned himself by their
door
with me to his right
let us say
then a long banner
held by some friends
giving it welly for sure
all sorts of people were passing
some in fur coats
but most thought
it wasn’t so nice to be wearing
them
some seem embarrassed
and sought
refuge by crossing out into the road
and others were blatant
but they
still seemed uneasy
and some clearly shocked
so I thought, in fact,
we’d done okay
we moved them
and lots gave the thumbs up
the buses the tour buses too
lots took our photo’s
and lots had a laugh
because we all did
what we had to do
Rob and I read out a long article
and Rob took the stage
so did I
we sang out our messages
one after the other
despite a
a cold wind
and a blue sky
there were others callers
we all stuck to our task
no let up at all
and we found
with all of that shouting
my voice soon gave out
I began to get raspy
the sound
faltering slightly
but others took up the challenge
and we
without a doubt
carried the shout
I think we all did fabulously
at about 5.30
a lightening flash
lit up the street
and we knew
either the angels were
coming to join us
then a great clap of thunder came too
then we were hit by a hail storm
no locusts just hard bits of snow
deciding to give up the protest
at that point we all had to go
I suggested the directors were upstairs
tossing the snow from the sky
thats when my teeth started chattering so
and I thought I would break down and cry
but stiff upper lip we collected our things
and ran around the corner
to see
if there was shelter
there wasn’t
I shook hands with all their security
amicable they were all through the day
they stood and opened their doors
some people braved our rants
and they got through
today not a lot
but that didn’t matter
we got to the task
we didn’t chatter
kept up the chanting
they knew we were there
and I think we got results
we drove them spare
it just goes to show
just a few avid souls
can get to a big store
with all its controls
and make lots of noise
and deliver the case
and appeal to a lot of folk
yea with good grace
and we did and we did get through
lots turned away
some smiled a lot
and talked they did say
they agreed with us
what we did was okay
reminding them all
fur is cruel all the way
Nice poetry. captured the moment brilliantly
Thanks Adrian you are very kind to say that and I appreciate it very much
