Miley and Frankie

We don’t know where he came from
we just know he was there
as threadbare as a teddy
but remarkably aware
on top of the landfill
a great island of junk
he was lying very still
clearly he had sunk
himself in all the clutter
and seemingly believed
this was going to be his home
whether he was aggrieved
about it or was happy
he didn’t seem to mind
people threw this onto him
and around him he did find
mange was eating him away
parasites too spent
a lot of time upon him
his body he had lent
out to any parasite
who wanted to come by
and he was clearly host to all
and sundry which is why
he really felt uncomfortable
but made the best of it
hopeful someone might find him
that’s why he did sit
atop the pile but merged
into the background seemingly
feeling a bit sorry for himself
as all could see

we came for him the other day
spoke to him and said
will you come along with us
some biscuits we then fed
slipped a tie strap over him and urged
him to come along
he got up and he sat down
you see he wasn’t strong
but we managed to convince him
we were helping him and he
came along got in the car
and laid down
immediately
he was in a sorry state
suffering so much
his legs and ears were
bitten
and tender to the touch
we took him to the veterinary
his condition was as such
even the girls who washed him
had tears in their eye
drying him he lost most of his fur
which made us cry
his legs his ears parts of his body
after a he was introduced to Frankie
another soul
who was found stuck down a drainpipe
and who had lost control
the two of them were happy
together chums at last
Miley went from shut down
to moving about fast
both of them are happy
to be alive and well
both were saved from death me thinks
they had found man made hell
but both are now for adoption and one hopes
a forever place
will be found soon for them
which will be a wonderful new
space
a yard perhaps to run in
a basket near the fire
perhaps close to a window
to lay there when they tire
