China and the Ivory Trade

The inevitable
it rally had to happen
the universe was being
peppered by
the hearts and minds of many
animals activists
who saw the African Elephants
kneel and die
the angst was felt around the world
for certain
the market in their tusks
was clear seen
the Chinese are now clearly in the
thick of it
and realise the market is obscene

it is after all the biggest
most special animal
that walks the land with thunderous aplomb
its tusk were clearly destined into China
it must have thus exploded like a bomb
in the hearts and minds
of Chinese diplomats
they couldn’t not see what was there’s to see
the gangsters and the poachers
and the money sloshing too and fro
clearly they just had to try to be

on the front line giving it some welly
making laws that would frighten those who try
to slaughter all these elephants
they have to make it stick
and that I think has been the reason why
if China makes the laws
the poachers clearly
will think twice about selling ivory
China doesn’t mess with words
that appears the policy
and therefore what’s been said
may save the herds
