Being tenacious doesn’t reward you necessarily

The Grizzly Bear pounced on a Bison one day
the Bison not ready to die
or to pay
such a great price
he loved his life so
loved a special Bison
he did love her so

he just couldn’t bear
to not see her again
and so he fought back
though he was in such pain
fought back
like fire in his belly
for he
wanted so much his lady to see

and he managed to get away
managed to run
though injured a lot
he ran into the sun
across snowy fields
through the forest he ran
down the road to the the humans place
where he began
to just get away from the Bear
who did chase

though tiring and really
he just couldn’t face
the threat of those humans
but the Bison ran on
back into the forest
until he was gone

the bear just gave up
he had lost his big meal
the Bison exhausted
lay down to feel
tired and emotional
hopeful that he
could get back to where she was
and with her could be

slowly he made his way up on his feet
and went towards where she was
the attack did unseat
in him lots of confidence
clearly he was
injured but needed to see
her because
he loved just to be with her
just to be near
and so he tried hard
of that it was clear

well clear to those sentient
among us
but sadly for him
the rangers took one look
and their view was dim
he was badly injured
and needed to be
sent off to the Summer lands
yes seemingly

they didn’t take into account
his big heart
how he was thinking
not wanting to part
from his friend in the forest
as his pressure did climb
he wanted to see her
just one last time

how would men know this
unfeeling as hell
they shot him to death
now would she think well
of her beau who apparently just ran away
and didn’t come back to see her today
would she think badly of him
would she know
that in fact he did everything
hoping to show

his love for her
but the men were around
they did not understand
him and when they found
he had some bad injuries
thought it was best
to slaughter the Bison
who seemed so obsessed

blessed be
that poor soul
took so much of the pain
he so much wanted to see her again
to share her sweet aura
but it was not to be
man unkind saw to that
so tragically
