Being indifferent to those that need us

George Bernard Shaw reminded us
that indifference certainly
was as important as neglect
and I must say I agree
the bulk of people
say that they love animals
but they
eat them, mistreat them
neglect them and often
make them pay
a high price for their existence
its a lack of attention too
a lack of care
we dont want to share
and do not to have a clue

they can be sick and dying
neglected on the street
we just walk passed
not noticing we may kick
them with our feet
thats the complete indifference
we can show to these souls
which leaves them full of sorrow
and very often poles

apart from us they fret a lot
and, we don’t know why
they just need some attention
a pat may be,they rely
on that contact for their confirmation
that we love them, and
when we do not give it
they cannot understand

they may pine away
unfortunately
lost without our touch
some of us can’t realise
its our power that they love so much

and so they lay a panting maybe
lost souls in a way
really feeling unloved
which, just tends to play
into the heartache many feel
those quiet hours on their alone
indifference to the plight of those
whose temperament we’ve known
