A nine year old

Just 9 years on earth
a child just a soul
beginning life’s path
choosing that role
creation is marvellous
light appears so
then in an instant
where does it go
into a neighbours
back garden
to where a dog in a cage
sits there in despair
he would like to run with a ball
in the field
but in sted he’s locked up
and somewhat concealed

Just 9 years on earth
an innocence shines
would he want to pat the dog
arn’t they the signs
you’d expect from a child
I know, curiously
he peers into the cage
waiting to see
how the little dog re acts
clearly with joy
apparently he has
seen this little boy

then something untoward
happens, for we
see a match is then lit
by the boy
suddenly
the dog’s bed’s alight
the dog’s alight too
he is burning the dog
and its cries
go right through

the soul of those hearing
but the boy seemingly
is just unaware
and just dreamingly
walks back imagining
its all a game
as the dog is engulfed
by the swell of the flame

needless to say the dog
was badly burned
the boy really didn’t
seem very concerned
just 9 years and in that time
clearly such wrath
had turned what we thought
into a psychopath
agregious pain was dolled out
to a mite
who wrestled and was tangled
in the flames there
al’right
extensive burns and terrile pain
and a nine year old did this
with a kink in his brain

the little dog injured
but was to pull through
the boy clearly troubled
what could he do
arrested of course
but so very young
was it seen as some game
or perhaps the first rung
on the ladder to killing
the animal kind
and who knows a human
it could be enshrined
in his heart or his mind
that anything goes
just roast it alive
would someone suppose
