Alberta’s tar sands (the environment)

Alberta’s tar sands development
is key in Alberta’s mind
the inuit the environment the caribou
a sign
the wolves and other creatures
they don’t get a look in
its all about the oil and gas
those industries they win

hands down they have the best hands
the money and the power
they imagine killing wolves
will save the caribou
the hour
is nigh
and sadly Alberta and the Government
really do not care
they are into oil and gas
and that’s their only prayer

smoke goes every which ways
pollution all that ooze
is flooding into first peoples land
that’s the awful news
and oil and gas just raise it up
and care nothing for those who
have pristine lands up on the flanks
of what they want to do

oil and gas is dirty its the energy of lust
its the energy of profit
but the prophets hit the dust
the wolves are part of nature
its the balance it is true
the tar sands now are killing
even the caribou

rivers are being poisoned
fish are dying out
the wolves are being shot to death
from planes this is the rout
this industrialization is a monster
in reverse
a cancer growing daily
a vile and terrible curse

and its growing every which way
and there’s no way it is right
but the money and the taxes
are creating such a blight
the countryside the water courses
once pristine now are not
and everybody’s suffering
from the oil and gas and grot

Alberta isn’t listening
the inuit they know
they live not in their mansions
but out in the ice and snow
they realise as we all realise
the damage being done
but nobody higher up in the world
is listening, the sun
is still up there shining
and sometimes the skies are blue
it rains it snows the wind it blows
everything is dandy
but on the ground its unstable what they do
oil and gas are guzzlers of the water
oil and gas are guzzlers of the air
oil and gas are crippling the environment
and the bloody government really do not care
