Pamplona 6th July till the 14th July The running of the Bulls (Please support the league against cruel sports)

Pamplona’s bloody Bull run
is just that sinful, we
a cheapo package holiday
syndrome
with lots of misery

the Bulls in pens are frightened
poked with prods and bars
they run out into crowded streets
they are the fallen stars
thrown together all of them
to attempt this vile ordeal
their tendons in their necks were slashed
just think how that might feel

you cannot lift your head up now
without great shafts of pain
your eyes are filed to blur your vision
imagine that, again
a little bit of grit and you
know how painful that can be
so filing your eyeball with a metal file
its plain to see

of course it makes them angry
frustrated for they know
whats happening to them is hellish
but still they have to go
if not they are hit with iron bars
and forced out of the pen
and so they run together
wondering now when

crowds are all around them
they slip and slide around
broken bones torn ligaments
some fall on the ground
tails are pulled ears are pulled
they have had their horns cut too
to impair their spacial awareness
this is what we do

we cut them to the marrow
we tear their hearts away
we gnaw into their sinew
we make those blighter’s pay
for being Bulls
that’s all they are
the yob mentality
is out there on the streets
wrapped up in sangria
it be

the adrenaline rush is everywhere
amongst the Paella crowd
lots of cheapo vino
under a dark cloud
viciousness is everywhere
sanity exchanged
for violence and short tempers
and all appear deranged

the bulls they are the victims
tortured and in distress
humanity at the crossroads
but no one will confess
a savagery now fills the air
sadism now rules
bloody thirsty drunken idiots
most of them, are fools

gloating over bloodied wounds
tail pulling and the rest
a perfidious display of woe
in which nobody, is blessed
the darker side of festivals
released for all to see
the broken bones the evil tones
the thrill seekers seem to be

prepared to sell their very souls
for just the chance to be
in amongst the action
all its severity
its outrageous barbarity
and those bulls that get through
they are whisked off to the bull ring
for that is what they do

out comes more mutilation
this time the satin tribe
these are the performers
the assassins from inside
this infernal ugliness
this persecution seems
to be accepted by spectators
but its not one of your dreams

this is cold reality
its terror for those souls
who have faced the wrath of demons
who have thrashed through the controls
who have taken on each avalanche
of the evils from beyond
and from their loss of blood
and the outside noise
how they respond

angrily and in agony
bristling with fear
ominous and frightened
its so very clear
and if there are clear minded
we resent the fact that some
are in such a sorry stupor
3 parts pissed and numb

they become disgusting low life
not fitting for a soul
cursed by sun and alcohol
and lacking all control
a terrible transgression
a discriminatory display
iniquitous and wicked
but the order of their day

Pamplona has to ponder
at the sacrilegious way
its aura and its festival
are advertised today
a cheap package mini break
excitement to the fore
though everyone forgets the bulls
and their awful running war
they go home and they tell the lads
the excitement was intense
forgetting all those bulls that died
which of course just made no sense

    Hello Rex,

Thank you so much for your e-mail and please accept my apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

I really enjoyed your poem, it gives a really visual recount of the bull-run in an innovative and creative manner. I’ve submitted it to our Senior Communications Officer to see if we might be able to Tweet it. Hopefully, our joint campaigning with other organisations and amazing supporters like yourself will soon bring an end to this horrible tradition.

Best wishes and many thanks again,

its nice to hear from I write every day mostly about animals but sometimes for people that I visit I tend to write off the top of my head after some research its great because I find it works where video’s sometimes
      people object to
