pig farm in IOWA

Piglets
tiny babies
just a few days old
chucked about like
bags of spuds
that’s before they’re sold
thrown by their ears
castrated by
a bloke with rusty pliers
tails docked some even pulled off
seeing this
the fires
burning deep inside of me
grow hotter by the hour
treating little babies
so uncouthly
as some cower
frightened in their units
and slammed down on the ground
brutal are their injuries
and listen to the sound
they make the constant crying
the bleating
it just breaks all our hearts
of any sentient
that might just be around

so many little babies
are injured badly, they
have smashed up faces
broken bones and sores
that do display
the ugliness that’s commonplace
the meanest injuries
its wholesale cruelty going on
every single day

but why do this to babies
they have done nothing wrong
they have just been born
and beaten all along
some won’t make it through the week
already too far gone
it really shouldn’t happen
ever now upon

any farm that looks after
its animals, for they
are after all what pays the wages
and to treat them in this way
not only is it negligence but its
on a horrid scale
the staff are clearly
awful most beyond the pale

consumers try to boycott
pork now if you can
clearly its ill treated
and until there is a ban
on treating little babies
so despicably as these
then the corporates profit
perhaps you have to squeeze

its the only way they are going to change
otherwise if they
carry on making profits
they think its the right way
and all these little piglets
are suffering so much
so eat less meat and no more pork
not you are in touch
